Overview

When I started with DCC in 2000 most of my locomotives were not 'DCC ready'. Specifically for some older models a lot of work was needed to get a decoder installed. The industry has completely shited to DCC and nowadays models are fitted with decoder sockets for easy installation. This page shows some of the installations that I've done over the years.

Sound

Sound creates another dimension while operating a layout. For me only the sound of diesellocomotives adss value. I have a few electric locomotives with sound but it doesn't provide the same experience.

Some installations

Locomotive Address Decoder Installation Comments
Märklin #3143

Made a box for the speaker which is fitted in the roof. The decoder sits in the front of the frame, where to original HAMO diode bridge was located. Märklin/HAMO model detailed by NMJ.
With Sound, unfortunately the original Märklin/HAMO motor makes a lot of noise which interferes with the sound from the decoder.
