DCC Install

The NMJ Superline El11 was made in small numbers in 1995. Until the Topline version came out this was the only El11 on the market. This particular model, the El11.2083, is a special version. It has the two windows of the El11b (last El11 batch), as it was rebuilt after extensive damage in a crash in 1966.

As it obviously pre-dates DCC, installing a DCC decoder requires some work. By default it has a small board installed in the roof that makes the lower lights lit up on both sides, irrespective of direction and the top light/beam lit up directionally.

The original board has been removed from the roof, the wires to the lights are still visible. The board had a 4 pole connector and the connector is still visible as it was hooked up to the motor and frame.

In fron the new parts, a MTC21 adapter board, an ESU Lokpilot DCC 4.0 and a TCS VR1.5. The latter is used to provide the 1.5V for the lights, as I decided to keep the original grain of rice lights.

The frame has been rewired and a new 4 pole connector is used. This is temporarely hooked up to the decoder so a basic test could be done, to ensure that the locomotive would run properly.

The adapter board (with decoder) and the TCS VR1.5 are mounted to the side with double sided tape. The lights have been hooked up. F0 provides the lower lights (directionalless to both sides) and F1 activates the top light/beam (directionally).
