The first Norwegian Di3, Di3.602, was repainted into the new red colors in early 1988. It also got GM (General Motors) logos on the nose as a tribute to EMD (Electromotive Division of GM).
I wanted to model this. This page is about that project. I started with a Heljan Di3, which is a very nice model and it has the correct length and overall representation for the Di3.602.

Renumbering etc...

The project started with an AC version of the Heljan Di3.619 that I bought on eBay. The conversion back to DC is very simple and as I wanted to install DCC, it needed some electrical work anyway.

With some Model Master Airbrush Thinner and a Q-tip the numbers are removed from the Heljan Di3.619.

I couldn't find a decal set for the Di3.602. The woodland scenics lettersets have a type that is very close to the original number so I used that. It is unfortunately not as sharp as a decal set. Anybody has a decal set for the 602?

The GM logo was easily found in a decal set for EMD demo locomotives and the cab had its GM logo.

This model started as an AC model. The traces of the doubled sided tape for the reverser unit is still visible on the PCB (to the left). Converting to DC/DCC is relatively easy. The connections from the wheels/trucks need to be switched from AC to DC. I decided to install a sound decoder and for this install I'm using an ESU Loksound Select with an iPhone 4 speaker.

With Loksound FT 16.567BC installed and ready for service. The other locomotive in EMD demo colors is the EMD 7707, the G12 demonstrator. See EMD 7707 for details.

The video demostrates the sound functions of the NSB Di3.602 (and EMD 7707).
