The El11.2090 was built in 1953 as part of the El11 serie locomotives. Originally it had the standard four window front. In 1966 it was severly damaged in the Nydalen accident and it was rebuilt using the same two larger window design as the El11b.
In 1991, as part of a revision, it got a hybrid of the old design (gammel design) and the new design (nydesign). This looked very similar to the Di3.629. It stayed in service until early 1995.

When I learned about this particular model I wanted to make a model of it. The starting point would be the gammel design version of the El11b model from the NMJ Topline series. This page shows the modification that were needed to create this special locomotive as it ran between 1991 and 1995.

The starting point, the NMJ Topline El11.2148

The starting point is the NMJ Topline El11.2148. It will need quite a few modifications:
  • Yellow snow plough/plow
  • Roof needs to be painted in ny design red/black color
  • Door hand rails need to be yellow
  • Ladder needs to be yellow
  • The handles on the brake hoses need to be yellow
  • Renumber to 11.2090
In the photo the snow plow has been changed out to a yellow model from NMJ.

The various steps...

Next is stripping the shell from all the parts. None of them are glued so they can be carefully removed. After that the old numbers are being removed. The picture shows another El11 project as well. For the 2148/2090 model I used 2000 grit wet sandpaper to carefully remove the number.
The next step was to paint the roof. It got a color that is almost black but not completely. Then it got its new numbers, with decals from Romerike Modellservice (special order). At last the roof was masked and the model got a new top coat using Tamyia TS-80. In the mean time the door handles and ladders were sprayed yellow.
The end-result. A NSB El11.2090 in the special design, as it ran from 1991 until 1995.
