Introduction to the DSB MY 1126

The DSB MY 1126 is part of the Danish MY class. It was built by NOHAB in 1957. It was in service by the Danish Railways (DSB) until 2002. Since 2002 it is preserved by the MY Veterantog (which is associated with the Danish Railways Club).

In 1988 the MY 1126 received a paint scheme that looks like a printed circuit board. The MY 1126 and MX 1021 (which received a similar paint scheme), were used for testing Automatic Train Control. After the tests, it was put back in regular service.

In february 1994, during the Olympic Winter games in Norway, the DSB MY 1126 was leased by the Norwegian Railways and it was used as a second unit (behind a Norwegian Di3) in freight trains.

Heljan made a model of the DSB MY 1126 (catalog no: 4419). This page is about upgrading this locomotive with the LED light set from Dansk Hobby.

LED upgrade with Dansk Hobby LED set

Opening the Heljan locomotive shows the Lenz LE1025 decoder that I installed many years ago. Also clearly visible are the light fixtures in the nose that have a single bulb.
To install the new light boards, the old light fixtures need to be removed. On the right side this is already done and the parts are visble just above the shell. The left side still has everything installed.
Dansk Hobby introduced a LED light board that would upgrade the light in Heljan MY and MX models. They have been on the market for a long time and I believe the manufacturer no longer exists. Recently I was able to obtain a few sets. The second photo shows the parts in front of the Heljan shell. The set consists of two light boards with LEDs, some double sided tape and new light lenses.
The board is installed. The doble sided tape is put against the frame and the board is stuck to it. The board has two connectors, one goes in the "W" connection of the main PCB and the other in the "R" connection. The result is directional LED lights that show yellow/white (forward direction) and red (reverse direction).
The upgrade DSB MY 1126 is ready for service. I don't think it has ever been in Dombås but as stated earlier on the page, it was in service in Norway during the 1994 Olympics in February 1994.
