Introduction

Brawa

As described on my page about the Brawa NSB Cmdo9, Brawa has a nice model about the DRG VT137/VT62.9 and its Norwegian version. I have the DCC sound version of the second run. It has very nice details and sound features. How ever after running for a relative short time it stopped running nicely. Some searching on the internet shows that I'm not the only one that had some of these issues. This page shows my fix for the issue that I found in my model.

Fixing the electrical pickup issue

After some more research in my model I noticed that the electrical pickup from the non-powered truck was interrupted. The way the power is transfered from the truck to the body is by means of two small springs.
After removing the truck I noticed that one of the two springs was stuck. Upon further investigation it showed that some of the plastic underframe was melted around the spring and because of that the spring was stuck. This is likely due to some short where a large current ran through the small spring.
I decided to remove the springs and replace them with some wires. By lifting up the underframe a little bit, I was able to solder a wire to the little metal piece that normally would fit the spring.
The wires are then soldered to the truck at the same place where the springs would 'land'.
After reassembling the model, a test run confirms the fix. Now this model can be used as a 'fictious' museum model on my layout.
The Cmdo 9 is now parked in the roundhouse at my Dombås layout. As you can see, I wasn't the only photographer :-)
