Introduction

The El16 was introduced in 1977 as a Norwegian version of the Swedish RC4. From 1994 onwards extra ventilation grills were installed. The El16.2217 was modified in 1994 but was not completely repainted yet. Over the years also single arm pantographs were installed on version El16 locomotives, this includes the 2217. The photos shows the 2217 in both 1995 and 1996 with the extra ventilation grills.
Roco has made various versions of the El16. The 2217 was included in the original red/black version (catno. 43559). This is the original version. Later on the 2206 was released with the modified ventilation.

I was able to get an extra 2206 and decided to modify this to the 2217 with single arm pantographs.

Renumber & Pantograph install

The number and other details are removed. New decals are installed and the shell was coated with a Tamiya TS-80 flat coat.
The single arm pantograph is a WLB85. Roco also makes this, so I ordered two (parts no. 85326). It needs a small M1.6 screw for mounting. The original frame that holds the original pantograph is kept in place.
Two version of the El16. The original Roco 2206 and the modified 2217. This also shows the differences in the location of the builders plate and other small details. This is because the 2217 was from the last serie and the 2206 was part of the original first delivery of the El16.
The end-result. A NSB El16.2217 as it was between 1994 and 1997.
