Introduction
The class 217 (V162) was a prototype class that included an additional secondary engine for providing electric train heating. They were built between 1965 and 1968. Eventually the class 218 was prefered as that had only one engine (for both power and heating) and therefore the class 217 was limited to this initial serie.
They were in use until 2001 and one unit (217 014-0) is now a museum unit. The two first units were used for internal German railways use cases and were temporary renumberd into the class 753.

Models
Trix introduced a class 217 early in their program. In recent years that have launched a completely upgraded model. Also Liliput has a class 217 model.
