Introduction

The Norwegian El14 is based on the Swiss Ae6/6. 31 locomotives were built between 1968 and 1973 and many of them are still in service today. Until the split of NSB & NSB Gods the El14 ran in both passenger and freight service. They were transfered to NSB Gods, later CargoNet and are in freight service only.

Lima introduced the first El14 model in HO in 1980. The shell was very nice and it had the typical Lima drive. In the early 1990's Lima re-issued them and made some nice enhancements to the model. Most notably are the roof details and the wipers/horns in the front. In 2004 NMJ introduced a brass Superline version which was made in small amounts, it was the first DCC equiped Superline model. The most recent models are from NMJ in the Topline series.

DCC

The NMJ Superline models have a DCC decoder (Zimo) installed. The Lima models obviously predate DCC. I installed a TCS KAT series decoder in the models, this decoder has a built-in keep-alive capability which helps with the not to great power pickup of the Lima models. The NMJ Topline models have an MTC21 interface. Most of them were bought with factory sound (ESU Loksound 5), but some of them I did install my own sound decoders (ESU Loksound 5 DCC).
